When are strawberries in season in the UK?
Updated October 2026
British strawberries are usually at their peak in June and July. The pick-your-own season can start in late May on farms that grow under cover, and run into September with everbearing varieties.
Early, main and late season
- Late May to early June: the first fruit, usually from polytunnels or glasshouses.
- June to July: peak season, when most PYO farms have the most fields open.
- August to September: later crops on farms with everbearing varieties. Picking is lighter but often quieter.
Getting the best strawberries
- Go early in the day, soon after opening. Fields are cooler and freshly ripened rows are untouched.
- Pick fully red berries with a bright green cap. Strawberries don’t ripen further once picked.
- Pick by the stalk, not the fruit. Pinch the stem just above the berry to avoid bruising.
- Keep them cool and dry, and only wash them just before eating.
Check before you go
Rain, heat and busy weekends can all close rows at short notice. Check the farm’s own website or social media on the morning you go. Find farms on our pick your own pages.
